Getting Involved

Matthew 25:40  And the King will say, ' I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me.'

There are three main ways YOU can become involved:

  • PRAY -- Pray for the teams efforts and all the people of Haiti
  • GO -- Consider joining a team in the future (Read Our Plan for Action below for insight on what you'll be doing. We also encourage you to look through our Photo Gallery and read Mission Journal entries from people that have experienced a mission trip with Helping Hands for Haiti.)
  • DONATE --  Anything you can share is important. Every dollar we are able to collect directly impacts the people of Haiti in a tangible way. Please prayerfully consider a financial commitment to our efforts.

 Our Plan for Action

  • Seek out established churches that are struggling to provide Christian based education to their community
  • Help the church establish a council to oversee the Christian School
  • Along with the council develop a plan to make the Christian School possible and successful
  • Provide the needed infrastructure for a viable Christian School (building, desks, educational materials)
  • Along with council, develop plan for church school to become financially self-sufficient
  • During this process, continue to bring teams to work on church and community programs (bible school, adult/youth Christian programs, medical/dental education & programs, sanitation, water quality, etc)
  • Our first goal is to be actively working with 5 churches/communities at a time all at different stages of development. As one is passed on, another will be added. Budget $30,000 per community per year.

The Haitians realize that the best way for their children to have a chance is to give them an education. That’s why the Helping Hands for Haiti team is committed to the education of the Haitian children. In 2006 the construction of the new 6 room school in Jumelle was completed. This new school will help keep hope alive for this small community.  We continue to support many children who's family is unable to afford their child's education expense thru our scholarship program ($25.00 per month or $300.00 per year per child). This program helps us pay for the teachers, provide school lunch, books, shoes, and uniforms.

Community development is another area the team focuses on. We believe in the community becoming self sufficient in supporting their school and families. We work with community leaders to develop programs best suited for them. We purchased a rice mill to generate income for the school. The mill is now generating enough income to support the school. We also purchased land next to the school. Our first goal will be for community gardens on this land. Since then we have added a composting latrine and a clean water well. We have many dreams for the future uses of this land. Please pray with us for God's guidance.

We will also conduct Bible School for children, share in Bible Study with adults,  provide solar ovens, develop incoming generating skills and many other projects while in the village. But most important is spending time with and loving them!!

We have been blessed to have several doctors traveling as part of the team to Haiti. Their time is spent providing much needed care at the Hospital Albert Schweitzer in a nearby community.
