Blessings and Grace to you all.
The Helping Hands for Haiti 2008 team has returned from our February trip. It was an amazing time, (other than having flights canceled on both ends of our travels). It is always such a joy to spend time with the people of Haiti, and make friends with our new team members. This year there were 23 of us that made the trip,

14 of whom were first time travelers with our team. There are many stories to share, and we are working to put them all together for you. Please check back soon for updates. For those of you in the Sioux Falls area, there will be a presentation March 30th at 6:30 at Peace Lutheran Church. Please request info if interested.
Thanks for checking in,

Blessings to you. Hope yours summer is starting out GREAT.
It has been an exciting year for the Helping Hands for Haiti team. In late 2006 we made a contact with another group from the area that also travels to Haiti. This group leads teams that work mainly in the southern part of Haiti. We have been meeting together on a monthly basis to share ideas, experiences and prayers. What a blessing it has been. They have also helped us in receiving our 501-C3 recognition. That basically means that “Helping Hands for Haiti” is now a stand along nonprofit organization.
A group of 8 traveled to the village of Jumelle in February of 2006 to witness the completion of the new six room school made possible by all of you. We returned to Jumelle in February 2007 with 17 team members. 5 members including 3 physicians spent their time at a local hospital performing many needed procedures.

The remainder of us worked on many tasks in the village. 30+ school desks were built. Each holding up to 5 kids.

Bible school was conducted for around 75 children for three days,
and sewing classes taught to many local women.
We also delivered 5 solar ovens to the school. The local women were educated on how to prepare many great meals without the need of any charcoal.
The classroom walls were decorated with maps of Haiti and the world. Some of our artistic members also covered the plain gray concrete walls with colorful chalk drawings.
A basketball hoop was also added to the corner of the school. What a hit with the kids!
One of the most rewarding parts of the trip was the opportunity to worship with Gods people in Haiti every night.

This small church was busting at the seams with not only bodies, songs and praise, but most of all with the HOLY SPIRIT. Three hour services are the norm, and no one was looking at a watch to see when the service would be done. Several of us were asked to share the word and message during the service.

These are experiences that can not be explained with words. Several of us were also able to lead bible studies during the afternoon. This is an area we plan to expand in future trips.
After the completion of the school building in 2006 we requested the community form a council to over see its everyday operations. We also told them that we would help them support this new school.

They were to develop a business plan for the community to operate and raise funds needed to meet the school expenses. We had suggested a water pump that could help in the production of crops year round. Our thought was that they could sell this produce on the open market. They had a different idea. Evidently the market is flooded with crops for the amount that can be purchased in the area. The council said if they were to operate a mill that would dehull and grind grain that they could raise enough funds to support their school.

We agreed and told hem we would do all we could to purchase the mill. The mill will remain the property of our organization. This will keep them focused, knowing that if they do not put forth a positive effort they may lose their opportunity.
Please pray with us that we will find a way to raise the need $10,000 dollars to purchase the mill.Visit our "Donate" page if you wish to help.

Part of our 16 member team will be working at a local hospital. We will continue our efforts to learn how best to build a "Community" in this area. We look for your prayers that GOD may guide our efforts to His glory!
UPDATE 04/15/2006

The New 6 Classroom School at Jamel.
PRAISE THE LORD!!
We are so proud to present the completed school at Jamel. When we arrived in Jamel on Feb 12th all that remained to be completed was some roof and door work. It was completed with the teams help. The school was constructed be locals led by the "Helping Hands for Haiti" in country project coordinator Fritzner Pierre. There were more than 950 man/woman days invested in this project by these hard working Haitians. Total cost came in around $28,500. With your generous help we have raised over $26,000. THANK YOU!!!!!
As we celebrate this Blessed Easter season, please keep the people of Haiti in your prayers. May God continue to give His people in Jamel and all of Haiti the HOPE they need to continue. May he bless this new school and the HOPE it brings this communities children.
We will soon be adding Pictures to the "Photo Gallery" and updating our "Journals" pages. We are still learning how to navigate thru this program, so please have patience with us.
GODS Blessings to you all,
The Helping Hands for Haiti Team

“There are over 8 million people in Haiti and most of them live in poverty. I asked myself what I might do to help 8 million people? I could do nothing for all 8 million people and I could do nothing for 1 million people but I could do something for just one person and that is where I would start.”
